Q. What is the difference between going to a CDT rather than a Dentist?

CDT’s are specifically educated, trained and qualified to treat patients directly for the provision of dentures. They have expertise in dealing with difficult cases and they take referrals from Dentists. Whoever you choose you need to ensure they are registered with Dental Council of Ireland.

Q. Is it more expensive to have dentures made from a CDT rather than a Dentist?

Each patient needs to have their individual examination and assessment.
From then you are free to decide who to choose for your treatment.

Q. Why can I not just phone for a quote?

Giving quotations is the sole responsibility of the CDT as this is part of the consultation.
Receptionists are not legally permitted to give quotations under Dental Council of Ireland criteria.

Q. Do CDT’s treat patients at home, hospital or Nursing homes?

You may phone around CDT’s to see who provides this service.

Q. How do I choose between one CDT and another?

Usually word of mouth will help you decide.
Otherwise some CDT’s have their own websites for further information.

Q. I have had dentures made by someone who is not qualified and I am not happy. What action can I take?

Firstly, you are entitled to your money back.

Then contact the Dental Council of Ireland to register your complaint. They will advise you. The contact details are below.

It is a criminal offence for anyone other than a registered Dentist or CDT to provide any denture treatments directly to members of the public. You are also entitled to report the situation to An Garda Siochana.
